BBC Vision
BBC Vision is a department of the BBC which incorporates the programme production, commissioning and broadcast operations including BBC Television. It is headed by the director of vision, George Entwistle.
History
Set up as BBC Vision Studios to commission the in-house production of BBC television programmes, the department on the fourth floor of BBC Television Centre, changed its name to BBC Vision Productions in October 2007. [1] BBC Vision launched in November 2006,[2] after being announced by Mark Thompson in July 2006[3] when he said "It's about how we can make the BBC the most creative organisation in the world, delivering content that our audiences will simply love.'".
Today the operation is one of seven departments that encompass the whole of the BBC's domestic operations, answerable to the Director General's office and to the separate BBC Trust. The organisation includes the BBC Television department, BBC Archive and is responsible for commissioning, producing and scheduling all of the BBC's programmes, both in-house and made by independent production companies.
